Welcome to the County Stone architectural page where we would like to show you just a small selection of the bespoke range of products available to you. County Stone cast stone products replicate traditional architectural stone features with the authentic appearance of natural stone. The uses of cast stone in the built environment can be as varied as the designer wants them to be. As a contemporary building material it is extremely adaptable and can be used to create virtually any effect.
The trend for the restoration of old buildings has increased the demand for good quality cast stone. By combining advanced technology and time honoured craftsmanship we can create a wide range of high quality bespoke cast stone products that are both durable and authentic looking. Cast stone adds character and personality to any development both new or old. The benefits are clear, considerable cost saving, durability and shorter lead times than natural stone.
County Stone cast stone products have been successfully used within conservation areas and are well received by local authority planning departments as well as the special planning board.
Peter Ridgeway – Chief Executive, South Lakeland District Council, Planning Department said…
”Further to our recent conversation about your pitched lintel product, I am happy to confirm that I was impressed by the surface characteristics of the product and would be content to see it used on a range of project within the District where an exposed “limestone like” surface was to be achieved.

Rydal Hall restoration project
In 2006 County Stone were awarded the contract for the cast stone work on the Rydal Hall restoration project for the Dioscese of Carlisle. Our role was to replicate the original damaged and weather worn steps, pillars, ballustrading, urns, spheres, finials and door surrounds first installed and made from precast concrete circa 1909. The brief was to match as closely as possible to the rest of the stonework so creating new units with an aged appearance.
We carefully removed the originals and sourced aggregates to match the Windermere lake dredged sand originally used, a practice no longer permitted; created masters and cast the replacement units. We then carefully “aged” them to match as closely as possible to the existing. These had to be approved by English Heritage.
Working closely with the architect, the clerk of works and his team we explored different ways to create a mould best suited for each individual piece. The main aim being to replicate both texture and shape as well as “ageing” as closely as possible.
Helping preserve part of our heritage in the gardens originally created by the renowned landscape architect Thomas Mawson was very rewarding.
“As an architect I have valued the efficient service and professional advice offered by County Stone over many years. We worked together recently on the restoration of a formal garden where the requirements of English Heritage were onerous. The personal care taken ….has resulted in a very successful restoration that has been acknowledged by all concerned”. Paul Grout B Arch (Hons) (L’pool) RIBA Chartered Architect
