Anniversary Celebrated with Architectural Success
County Stone (formerly Bowland Stone) is a family firm who have manufactured cast stone from their Kendal premises for the past 25 years. Recently we celebrated our quarter century by being involved in the exciting restoration scheme at Rydal Hall, near Grasmere, Cumbria.
Reverting to the manufacturing methods used at the turn of the 20th century, we carefully recreated the steps, balustrading and urns needed to replace those originally used by Thomas Mawson, the well known landscape architect who designed the gardens in 1909.
Peter Elleray, Director of County Stone said, “We were delighted to be involved in such a prestigious project and the challenge of recreating the moulds from original masters, casting, then ageing them to blend in with the existing features was quite a feat. Our clients are very happy with the results and its great to know that we’ve helped to restore part of our heritage.”
County Stone are more used to providing building and landscaping products fro the general market and this is the first time they’ve been involved in something so specialised, but felt this project was a very rewarding way to celebrate 25 years in business.

County Stone’s New Website
County Stone (formerly Bowland Stone) welcome you to their new web site. Although retaining many of the useful features of the old website, the new site reflects a new, fresher image as well as acknowledging the broader range of products on offer within the portfolio, along with clear sizing and pricing.
We’ve added this news page, as well as some information on the company’s background, and there’s a new page especially for Architects, full of technical information with downloadable PDF’s.
